Discrimination is often invisible and indirect for both discriminator and who becomes a victim of the discrimination. Therefore, it is always very difficult to self defend against discrimination.
Discrimination appear in various forms in different time and situation .Although, it is not possible to consist in a short note, I would like to mention a little summary which can be the common experience among us.
Examples can be so many. A person who lives in a remote village where he can rarely use or not use bus, motorbike, bicycle, car etc for transport or telephone for communication etc; is definitely unknown to the town life style and the technologies that are common in the town life, suddenly moves to a town where he has to struggle for his career is treated differently or he is looked down or mocked or called by a derogated adjectives is a commonly experienced bitter example of discrimination.
Although, to transform him into a new or town life or to apply his original style is his personal decision, society has brutally compelled one to transform oneself to adjust in a new and strange environment but it does not mean that one should totally extinguish own identity or way of living. One should always try to establish good things and thoughts even in a new society because one can not be a photocopy of that society. So, not to respect one’s identity or ways of living is prejudice and discrimination.
A person is treated harshly because he does not understand the meaning of their language of that particular group of society. A person is isolated and looked down because he raises voices for the oppressed class or minority ethnic group or dominated sex. A person is treated differently who refuses to be a photocopy of so called modernize, formal and sophisticated society, are commonly experienced example of any society.
Similarly, a capable person who is deprived from equal opportunity to work and traveling because of his economic capacity, race, ethnicity, nationality, and hair or skin color is another commonly faced example of discrimination. One can experience this type of discrimination even most in the developed and so called most civilized countries.
Normally, most of people are discriminated in working place everywhere. To be clear, we can see when an equally qualified person is treated differently or when differently qualified persons are treated equally is also discrimination. When a person is expected extra attention, or compelled to do more work, or a person is blamed for a cause of less and low quality work or cause of destruction, damage where as other are praised without doing a good job as he does is another type of discrimination. Probably, a person is taken as a particular nationality, ethnic group or color before than what he good is working. Probably, he is not a sycophant or not clever enough to make flattery to his boss. Probably, he is a straight forward and believed in work than he gives more time to make his boss happy by doing backbiting of other colleagues. Probably, he asks for a better and healthy working environment and basic requirements. But, this type of discrimination and exploitation are never revealed direct or clearly. This type of experience are existed mostly in Asian country like Nepal and more or less in European labor market in some working places. But, we can see comparatively less in Europe than in Nepal.
Similarly, a person may always encounter with a difficulty to be integrated to a new society because of his situation. People may not be open to him because of his thoughts, ethnicity, nationality, color and vice versa. Some people find their way easily to be integrated in some society because of their nationality and color.
So, a person can be equally discriminated within the country and outside the country. I think the state is a root cause of discrimination. Until big gaps between classes exist, the more discrimination and exploitation is growing. So,to end the discrimination, the state must provide equal opportunity to every body. The state must be a source of inspiration. Of course there must be a change in a perception of people.
